The Christmas Crew

Hi all, another Christmas card to share today.  I fancied trying this week’s sketch challenge over at Sweet Sketch Wednesday and this cute Pollycraft image seemed perfect for the job in hand!

Here is the sketch the card is based around:

And here is my finished card:

The image was coloured with Pro-Markers – I used Berry Red and Ruby to colour Santa’s suit as I feel they blend well and show depth of colour and shade.  I resisted the urge to use black on Santa’s boots and his little penguin friend, opting instead to use Warm Greys 1,3, 4 to build up the colour.  For the fur trim and Santa’s beard, I used the same technique as I’ve used previously for snow – I laid a layer of blender down, then a layer of Cool Grey 1 around the edges and corners, then blended the edges to graduate the colour.  Once I had coloured Rudolph, I simply had to add a little glossy accent to highlight his red nose!

The sketch shows a frame for the image – I chose to pop the Christmas Crew out of it by adding 3D foam pads and letting Santa’s hat and Rudolph’s antlers spill out over the edge of the frame.  The background paper is leftover from a Trimcraft set that has been lurking in my Christmas stash for a couple of years!  I added the green cardstock frame and made some small raised red dots from some red punched dots with a blob of glossy accents over the top  to echo Rudolph’s nose.

I’ll be entering this card into the following challenges:
