I Just Want To Dance!

I’m back with another challenge for Sentimental Sundays!  This week, we are sponsored by Calypso’s Crafty Things – and there’s a fabulous prize for the lucky winner!  The theme for this challenge is “Inside and Out”, another first for me!  I always pay a lot of attention to the front of my cards, but I can’t remember ever continuing the theme inside! FTH Sketch060

I based my card around sketch 60 at From The Heart Sketches.  I love to flick through the old sketches when I’m struggling to pin down a design, it’s just packed full with inspiration! sentimental sundays 10 aug14 full So, the details for my card….  The image I have used is a MilkCoffee freebie from a while back – not sure how I have overlooked her for so long!!  I coloured her using Pro-Markers as usual.  I’ve tried a new hair combo – Ivory, Satin and Tan – and I’m really pleased with the way it’s turned out.  The image on the inside of the card is by Patties Creations.  I’ve coloured the ballet slipper with ProMarkers, then mounted on a lilac mat before popping it inside the card.

To create the frame on the front of the card, I designed a “ring doughnut” shape in the Silhouette software by laying a smaller circle over the larger circle and the subtracting the top shape.  I then welded the letters of my daughter’s name to the outside edge of the doughnut.  The banner pieces were also cut from glitter card on the Silhouette, before being hand stitched to the corrugated card with some matching ribbon.

The papers on the front of the card are from the Papermania Spots and Stripes collection; all the other papers are from my stash.

When I Grow Up….

This week’s challenge over at Sentimental Sundays is all about what you’d like to be when you grow up!  Our sponsor, PolkaDoodles, offered us three images to choose from; I stayed girly and picked the ballerina, and popped her into a card based around the current sketch challenge over at Try Stampin On Tuesday (see below for sketch).

The image was coloured with ProMarkers and lots of Candy Floss and Star Dust Stickles, and popped into a Kraft frame which I edged lightly with silver Brilliance ink.  To give the impression of daydreaming, I chose to emboss the panel behind the image with the Clouds folder by Darice, smudging my pink chalk VersaMagic ink from the bottom to the top of the panel to highlight the clouds.  I used the same technique on the heart embossed banner, while the second banner just had the ink pulled across, without any embossing!  The panel and both the banners were mounted on Kraft.  The sentiment in the top right was cut from some bubblegum pink glitter cardstock by the Silhouette.

A(bi) for Ava

In amongst all the hustle and bustle of preparing for Christmas every year, my friends from my NCT class back in 2006 are all celebrating their eldest children’s birthdays – and this weekend is no different as it’s Ava’s turn!

Today’s card features a little ballerina that I am very fond of…Abi!  Abi is one of the sweet collection of stamps available from All Dressed Up (and she’s a freebie at the moment too!).  I’m also playing along with the current sketch challenge over at From The Heart Stamps, where this week’s layout looks like this:

And here is my completed card:

I have used a plain baby pink cardstock for the base of the frame, overlaying with a piece of Sienna glitter vellum by Docrafts.  Abi was coloured with Pro-Markers and a little sparkle, courtesy of a little Stickles.  The banner behind the framed image is cut from two layers of shimmery Centura Pearl cardstock (although it’s not easy to see in the photos), the bottom layer is a raspberry colour, and the top layer is an iced pink.  Final touches of a piece of ribbon and some little pink gems, both from my stash, and the card is ready to be written and posted off!

Abi Ballerina

Today, I’d like to introduce you to a gorgeous ballerina….meet Abi!  Abi is just one of a collection of adorable stamps by All Dressed Up.  I just couldn’t resist her cute little face, as she reminds me so much of my daughter, Erin.  With Erin in mind, I coloured Abi using my Pro-Markers.  I am still at the “must practice and concentrate” point with colouring, but this time I tried colouring from light to dark as I find it easier to remember to shade this way, adding depth and darker shades, rather than trying to take the darker colours away to create light.  I added a line of crystal Stickles at the edge of her tutu and on her headband to add a little sparkle and contrasting colour.2013-09-13 10.31.55

I couldn’t shake the idea that she looked like she was pointing to something as she danced, so I made a 3D butterfly using a Martha Stewart punch.  I chose a sparkly vellum for the top layer of the butterfly, to tie in with the Stickles on Abi’s skirt.2013-09-13 10.31.26.1

I chose to make the card as an S-fold card so that I could add a pop of extra colour without having to mount Abi directly to it.  The spotty paper I used is Easter Dots by SandyLion – I must confess to having it in my stash for around 4 years!  I originally bought it to use on a scrapbook page for my daughter’s baby scrapbook, and then put it in a safe place, never to be seen again…!

Well, here she is….2013-09-13 10.31.262013-09-13 09.43.32
