Crafting At The Weekend Launch Day

At last!!  Crafting At The Weekend launches today!!

26 april full

My first project for this new challenge blog is a project that I have had in mind since buying my Silhouette last summer!  We moved house in March last year and have been (very slowly) decorating and modernising the house.  The living room was the first room to have paint inflicted on it, as it was a gaudy yellow (as is most of the downstairs!) , and just wasn’t a room you could relax in!  So, I attacked it with several layers of Dulux Buttercream to keep it light and fresh, but without the need for sunglasses.  Finally, a year on, the room has a lovely bespoke cast iron curtain pole, curtains, sofas that fit and some furniture and I’m down to the little touches to finish it off!  Which is where my project comes in….

I recently received a freebie butterfly cut file from the Silhouette Online store, which I have adapted slightly.  Now, instead of cutting the butterflies out completely, the middles are uncut which allowed me to pop the wings forward and give the butterflies more depth.  I chose to cut the butterflies from a piece of aqua Bazzill cardstock that was leftover after a wedding commission last year – it has a lovely, but subtle texture to it and cuts easily.  Finally, I popped it in a Ribba box frame from Ikea, and hung it on the wall!

New Challenge at Crafting From The Heart

Aah well, here we go, the first Monday of the year…!  And that means it’s time for a new challenge over at Crafting From The Heart.  There’s a small change to the challenges for 2014 – we’ve added in some optional  themes for you to follow, if you fancy!

The theme or this fortnight’s challenge is “Buttons and Pearls” and we were delighted to be sponsored by Lacy Sunshine, Angie’s Digi Stamps and A Day For Daisies.  I chose to use Valentina by Lacy Sunshine – it’s the first time I’ve coloured a Lacy Sunshine stamp, but I think I might be hooked!!  She looked cute uncoloured, but I think she looks amazing now she’s had the Pro-Marker treatment!!  I used the print and cut facility on the Silhouette for the image, choosing to add a little stitched border too.

The papers are from the I Heart You collection by Harper Finch.  I’ve used several of these collections now and have found them so versatile – I loved the greys mixed with reds and pinks!  I only managed to include one button on my card – the little heart button on the banner, but I think it works pretty well with the image and papers.

I based the layout on the current sketch over at Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge:

New Challenge Time!

It’s time for a new challenge over at One Stitch At A Time!  The theme for this week’s challenge is Boo! (or Halloween colours, if you prefer!).  The main prize up for grabs this week is 3 Pro-Markers, but, as always, remember to use a Stitchy Bear image to be in with a chance of winning the main prize!  There is a runner up prize of $3 to spend in the Stitchy Bear store for the winning entry that doesn’t use a Stitchy Bear image.

I look forward to seeing all your fabulous spooky projects!

My first One Stitch At A Time DT project!

Today is the day of my first challenge for the One Stitch At A Time Design Team!!  This week, the theme is Anything Goes, an nice and easy one to play along with.

For my card, I am using the “In The Meadow, We Can Build A Snowman” digi, by Reece’s Scrap Pieces which is available through the StitchyBear’s Stamp Shop.
2013-10-01 11.04.45

I coloured the image using Pro-Markers.  This was my first attempt at colouring snow and I am pretty pleased with the end result!  It isn’t very easy to see from the picture above, but I used Tea Green with a blender pen to create some shaded areas on the snowman and the snow on the ground,  As I’ve mentioned before, I love sparkle, so as a final touch I added some Star Dust Stickles to represent the frosty glimmer.

The silver snowflake frame was created using the Silhouette.  I welded some small snowflakes to the outside of a circle and then cut the whole frame from some silver vinyl-type that has been lurking in my stash box for a good while!

The embossed strip underneath the image, was originally a shimmery cardstock, but I wasn’t keen once I laid it all together, so I flipped it over and used the white side inside, with a length of ribbon across the centre, in a similar colour to the background paper, which was included as one of several extra papers in the digi set.

So, back to the challenge…  As I mentioned earlier, the theme this week is “Anything Goes” and this week’s sponsor is the StitchyBear Digi Outlet.  For the chance to win the complete set of digis used by the DT in Challenge 184, simply include an image from the StitchyBear Store.  There is also a runner-up prize of $3 to spend as you wish in the StitchyBear online store for entries that do not use a StitchyBear image.  I hope to spot your entries there!!

I’m off to enter a few challenges myself with this card – just spotted a couple of  “Anything Goes” at Yumi and Fumi Handmade and Challenges 4 Everybody, not to mention Make It Sparkle over at Crafting When We Can!

Cute Just Got Cuter…

There’s no arguing with that!!  This cute little image is the new freebie from All Dressed Up, to coincide with their first challenge.  I chose to use this little pup to make a birthday card for my step-dad, as he loves dogs!2013-10-03 08.06.47

I based this card around Sketch 14 on the From The Heart Stamps blog.  The image was coloured with Pro-Markers; I’m still working hard at mastering hair and fur colouring, as you can see from this latest effort!  The spotty paper is from a Forever Friends Christmas pack and the stripy paper is from the First Edition Summer Breeze pad.  A length of red satin ribbon, to tie in with the dog’s ribbon in the image and a lovely brown button, tied through with some red and white baker’s twine finished it off.

Challenges:

613 Avenue Create – Challenge 40: Anything Goes

Brown Sugar Challenge 63: Anything Goes

Yipppeee!!

I’ve had a great couple of days and just wanted to share…

Firstly, I was picked for a GDT spot over at Paula Holifield Crafts – the card that I entered for this challenge is here.  I was especially pleased as this was the first card shared on my blog!  Then, late last week I was contacted by Anna over at C is for Challenge, offering me the opportunity to join her team of GDT for three challenges in late October and November!!  Needless to say, I agreed before she changed her mind!!  This is the card I entered for Anna’s challenge.

Then, through the course of today, these 3 cards have been listed in the top 3s of the challenges I entered them into!!  2013-09-26 12.50.57 2013-09-16 07.49.46 2013-09-23 09.35.37

This is the first time ever that one of my little projects has been noteworthy enough to be placed by the Design Teams and I have to say that I am over the moon!  Thank you to all at Silhouette Challenges and Partytime Tuesdays!
