Christmas Tree Cut

Sorry it’s been a quiet week from me this week…  I have been rushed off my feet, catching up on household things and getting ahead on DT projects!  Anyway, here’s a card I tried out a few days ago..

I have seen lots of intricately cut trees and baubles and decided to try my hand at creating my own, now that I have almost got the hang on manipulating images in Silhouette Studio.  I combined several swirls and flourishes, creating one row of the tree at a time and then editing out some of the pointless cut points, before committing the image to cut.  Here’s what the final cut looked like:

I punched small circles of red glitter cardstock to add to the tree as baubles, and cut a trunk which I coloured with Pro-Markers.  I used 3D foam pads to pop it off the plain white background, then mounted it on a layer of card embossed with a swirly Cuttlebug folder, which is very similar to the swirls and flourishes in the tree.  I added a little red and white ribbon before mounting it all on a card blank.

I was pleased with the end result, didn’t think it was too bad for a first attempt at creating my own image to cut…and it’s another Christmas card for my ever-growing pile!

Sparkle and Shine

I was very proud to be offered the chance to be Guest Designer over at Paula Holifield Crafts for the Sparkle and Shine Challenge which starts today!

I am only too aware that I’ve been avoiding making Christmas cards recently!  With this in mind, I focussed on adding Sparkle and Shine to an image that I have had lurking on my desk for a couple of weeks!

This cute little angel is a free image from Sliekje Stamps.  I coloured the image in using Pro-Markers, adding Stickles for a little extra sparkle on the wings, dress and wand.  I have recently rediscovered paper piecing (thanks MilkCoffee!) and thought that this lovely Christmas tree would look great with the added depth to the foliage.  Again, a little dash of Stickles along the edge of the mulberry paper branch “layers” and some red gems that have been hiding in my stash for ages brought the sparkle and shine to the tree!  The papers are from a Forever Friends Christmas pack that I am gradually working my way through….it seems to have lasted ages, and has been very versatile! I added tiny little adhesive Bling gems to the centre of the snowflakes printed on the papers, and mounted the image and papers on a light blue shimmery card, topping off with a silver glittery snowflake die cut.

Finally, the card base deserved a sparkly touch, so I welded an offset sentiment to the base outline using my Silhouette, then cut the letters from some uber-glittery cardstock…and hey presto! More Shine and Sparkle than you can shake a stick at!!

Thank you to Paula Holifield Crafts for letting me try out their GDT spot – I had a great time!  Why don’t you add some Sparkle and Shine to your project today and head on over to the challenge!
