New Challenge At Crafting From The Heart

This week’s challenge at Crafting From The Heart put me a little out of my comfort zone, if I’m honest!! I am not a big fan of Halloween and all things spooky, but I hope you like what I came up with!

We are sponsored by Delicious Doodles and Angie’s Digi Images and, as usual, our theme is Anything Goes!

So here’s my project:

Looks pretty boring, doesn’t it??!!  Have a look at a couple more photos…

I decided to make a small pyramid treat box, using a file from the Silhouette Store, then popped my image, Reptile Eye available from Delicious Doodles, on the inside to spook!  The base of the pyramid is just 6cm square, so they’re the perfect size to be handed out as little party favours at any Halloween get-together!  I’m planning on filling mine with some little chocolate eyeballs that I spotted in the supermarket last week 🙂

Don’t forget to pop over to Crafting From The Heart to see what the rest of the team have put together for you!

Very Pink And Girly!

It’s time for a new challenge over at Crafting From The Heart!  As always, our theme is Anything Goes, which makes it so easy to play along!  We have some great sponsors again this week – A Day For Daisies and Aurora Wings!

I chose to use G Is For Girl by A Day For Daisies for my DT project.  Believe it or not, I didn’t have a pink and girly card in mind, despite the fact that the image is about all things girly….!  However, this card ended up being a very last minute make – something I hate doing as I prefer to take my time over my makes!  Unfortunately though, events including a garden makeover, a smashed conservatory window and the school holidays all led to this card being made up against a deadline!

All in all, I’m quite pleased with the results though!  The image was so quick and simple to colour – I kept to shades of pink to co-ordinate nicely with the papers and ribbon.  The layout is based around the latest sketch challenge over at Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps, which is such a lovely classic design that I couldn’t resist joining in!

3000 sketch Kraftin Kimmie

Would you believe that I spent more time on the bow than the rest of the card altogether!  The polka dots are only on one side, but I didn’t want to show the plain side on the loops and tails of the bow – I love the way it is only visible at the centre!  Let’s just say, it took several dozens tries to get it just right 🙂

That’s it from me today – I hope you get time to pop over to Crafting From The Heart, where even the quickest makes are welcome!!

Make A Wish….

Today I have a little cutie by Art By Miran to share with you.  Over at Crafting From The Heart, we were very lucky to be sponsored by both Art By Miran and SNS for this challenge.  As I’ve had this little fairy hiding on my desk, I thought it would be the perfect time to pop her on a card!

crafting from the heart 7 july 14 full

I’ve kept the card nice and simple, using AC coloured cardstock to create depth.  I printed the stars and sparkles directly to the top layer, and then added two layers of Star Dust Stickles once it was in place on the card.  The sentiment is part of a Samantha Walker file from the Silhouette store, cut from matching cardstock and coated with a touch of Stickles (must remember to order a Wink Of Stella pen….!).

The image was printed and cut using the Silhouette, then popped up on 3D pads.  She was coloured with Pro-Markers (the magenta blend pack accidentally found its way into my basket on a trip to TK Maxx last week….oops!) and finished with a little Stickles sparkle too.

Make sure you stop by Crafting From The Heart – it’s Anything Goes as always, so I’m sure you’ll have something to share!

Joyful (And Seriously Cute…) Gingerbread People!

Aah, apologies in advance again, it’s another Christmas card from me today – feels a little weird, as it’s been so lovely and hot recently, but there you go, eh?!

Today’s card is my DT make for the new challenge over at Crafting From The Heart.  As usual, the theme is Anything Goes.  Our sponsors this week are The Stamping Boutique and StampArt by Kathryne.  I chose Joyful Gingerbread, and this led to the Christmas card in June scenario we find ourselves in today 😉

crafting from the heart 23 june 14

The original image is just one of the pairs of Gingerbread people; I used the Silhouette software to replicate a row of little people, to use them as a border on the card.  I then offset them twice, allowing for the border around them and also the red border.  There was only a tiny bit of colouring needed, but I hadn’t thought about how tiny and fiddly it would be!  Eventually, I managed to pop on a little Berry Red Promarker, with little touches of white Jelly Roll without going too far out of the lines!

crafting from the heart 23 june 14 flat

To create the shaped bottom edge of the card, I used the Silhouette to weld the largest offset outline to a rectangular shape – as I was using a pre-cut card base, I made the rectangle bigger than the card base as I didn’t need to sides and top of the card cut.  If I had been cutting the whole card base shape, I would have just made the rectangle smaller, sticking to a standard card size, of course!

The final touch was the sentiment which is by Kristen Magee and is available in the Silhouette store – I love the flow of the script, it was just what I was looking for!

Head over to Crafting From The Heart now to see the other DT makes – they’re not all Christmas cards, I promise!!

Pretty Polly!

Warning!!  The following post includes references to “that time of year“!  Readers of a sensitive nature may wish to pop back tomorrow!!

Well, here goes….my first Christmas card of 2014!  If I’m honest, I’m normally start my Christmas crafting in November, or even in a blind panic in December.  It feels a little bizarre to have spent my afternoon with Poinsettia Polly, when the sun is (finally!) blazing outside – but I am feeling very proud of myself for starting early.  Not sure if one card counts as really starting though, guess we’ll have to see what the next few week’s crafting result in!

For this week’s challenge at Crafting From The Heart, we have three amazing sponsors; Lacy Sunshine, Sassy Designs Studio and PaperNest Dolls!  As always, our theme is “Anything Goes” so you are bound to be able to join in!

I have used Poinsettia Polly for my DT card; this little cutie was coloured with ProMarkers.  The layout is based around the current sketch challenge at Your Next Stamp.  Unfortunately, I can’t remember where these papers are from – I can tell you that the bauble paper is from the first paper stack I ever bought though!

As usual, my teamies over at Crafting From The Heart have been crafting their socks off – we’d love you to pop by and leave us some lovely comments!

New Challenge at Crafting From The Heart

This week’s Anything Goes challenge over at Crafting From The Heart launches today!  We’re delighted to be sponsored by A Random Fan – I’ve had a lot of fun with my card for this challenge, which features the Daisy and Dexter Bunting image!

crafting from the heart 12 may 14 full

The image was coloured with Pro-Markers (really not happy with the way the hair looks, definitely over-blended!).  Oddly, Daisy’s hair seems to fade from the fringe to the back…!  She also ended up having a hair colour similar to my own, totally unintentionally!  OK, that’s it for moans about the hair colouring, promise!  All the papers are from the American Crafts Hip Hip Hooray stack, which is still a firm favourite, but is now looking very depleted 😦

I followed the current sketch over at Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2:

ssw2 13

I found it a little tricky to get out of my CAS comfort zone and add all the elements, especially the two in the bottom corners, but I think I managed it OK in the end!  Making the bunting was lots of fun – even if I did end up glued to it at one point….

That’s if from me today; hope you’ll find time to pop over to Crafting From The Heart!

Use Some Yellow At Crafting From The Heart

The theme for the new challenge over at Crafting From The Heart is “Use Yellow” and we are sponsored by Scribble and Scrap this week.  I chose to use Vintage Rose Heart for my project.

crafting from the heart 14 apr 14 full

I always like to have a couple of gift card holders lying around, just in case, and seeing as I’ve just sent off my last one, I decided to build my stash up again.  A while ago, I bought a template from the Silhouette Online Store, which makes a lovely shaped card holder.  I had a little scout around online and also came across a lovely freebie vintage rose digital paper over at Free Vintage Digi Stamps, which I used to fill the template before cutting it on the Silhouette.  To colour the image, I used the Silhouette dropper tool to pick the colours out of the digi paper, so that the image and digital paper matched perfectly.  Lastly, I added a sentiment across the heart, pressed print and cut, and hey presto!

Have you popped over to have a look at the other DT makes this week at Crafting From The Heart?

Before I go, I’d also like to remind you that our brand new blog Crafting At The Weekend launches on Saturday 26th April….that’s less than two weeks now!!

Keep It Cute And Cuddly!

For our new challenge over at Crafting From The Heart, we’re looking for your cute and cuddly creations!  The DT were fortunate to be sponsored by Bugaboo and Patties Creations – I chose to work with this cute little Sock Monkey

crafting from the heart 31 mar 14

Now, it’s nearing the end of the school term for us, so there are many assemblies, Easter parties and parades, as well as all the usual weekly commitments.  With this in mind, I needed to make a quick card!  Just recently, I’ve ended up taking several days umm-ing and aah-ing over the right layouts and papers, but I really didn’t have that much time this week, so I chose to faux paper piece the card, using Harper Finch’s Sweater Weather paper stack.  I added several more layers than I usually would, as I couldn’t decide on my favourite papers for the background!  And I’m proud to say, the card was started when I came home from the school run this morning, finished by 11am and my whole post was completed before I left home to pick my youngest up from pre-school at lunchtime.  The only downside is that I haven’t got any excuses to avoid the ironing this afternoon….

Grab Your Punches And Dies…

Ready for a new challenge at Crafting From The Heart?  Our new challenge starts today, for one week only….that’s right, today’s the day Crafting From The Heart goes weekly!  The theme this week is Punches Or Dies, so it’s very easy to play along.  We were very fortunate to be sponsored by The Stamping Chef and Lacy Sunshine, so many lovely images to choose from….

But I eventually picked Eleanor Painting Butterflies by Lacy Sunshine, because I’m having withdrawal symptoms from my Martha Stewart punch and figured I could definitely use some 3D butterflies to embellish this card!

crafting from the heart 3 march full

I coloured the image with Pro-Markers, sticking to blues and yellows, the perfect Spring/Summer colour combo in my humble opinion!  I’m trying very hard to improve the way I colour hair, and spent ages reading through tutorials.  Unfortunately, I don’t think much of it went in, I’m none too impressed with the way it turned out….back to the tutorials I think!  Once coloured, I added touches of Stickles to the butterflies and paint pots and created a sky with some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink.

crafting from the heart 3 march flat

The butterflies were punched with the Martha Stewart punch and then glued to make the wings stand out.  The paper I used for the blue and white one was too flimsy really, but it seems to be holding up ok for now.

For the layout, I have based it on the current sketch over at Papertake Weekly (flipped upside down) and hope I haven’t missed the challenge by the time this post goes live – I forgot to work my days out on my fingers, I just got carried away (again!).  Either way, it’s a great sketch to play along with!

papertake weekly #87

The vellum panel is cut from a piece of Papermania Sienna, which I had left over from some wedding invitations I made last year.  The lemon and white paper is from Dovecraft.  The final layer is a piece of linen textured card, which I have lightly rubbed with some Scattered Straw Distress Ink.

I think that’s all….make sure you pop over to Crafting From The Heart to have a look at the great cards my team-mates have prepared for you.  And don’t forget, you only have 1 week to play along, the perfect excuse to grab your crafty bits straight away, I reckon!!

Mesmerising…..

I have my card for the new Crafting From The Heart challenge to share with you today.  As always, you can choose to play Anything Goes or to use our theme, which is “Flowers” this fortnight.  (Little confession…I forgot about the theme!  I got carried away!) We are very lucky to be sponsored by Aurora Wings and MelJens Designs – I chose to use the beautiful Princess of the Sea for my card, as I fell totally under her spell, and couldn’t look away!

I have to be honest, as beautiful as I find these images, I wasn’t rushing to work with one.  They are so intricately designed, that I couldn’t myself sitting still long enough to focus on colouring one, let alone presenting it in a style that suited it!  I thought these captivating images were about as far away from my comfort zone as possible!!  So, in the spirit of trying new things this year, I set myself the challenge!  And here she is, all coloured and simply presented…

crafting from the heart 17 feb full

I used ProMarkers to colour the image.  Unfortunately, it took three attempts, due to a very juicy marker leaking all over the almost completed image twice (you’d think I’d have learnt after the first accident…!).  My original attempts both had blonde hair, but I’m glad I swapped to brown for the final version as it makes the shells easier to distinguish.  Once coloured, I added Glossy Accents to some of the larger water bubbles and Star Dust Stickles to some of the shells, smaller bubbles and the Princess’s eyelids.

I cut the frame on the Silhouette using a pearlescent pale gold card, and popped the image behind.  I added a bow, with two little starfish (that have been hiding in my stash for at least 5 years!) sewn to the centre.

Make sure you head over to Crafting From The Heart to add your creations to the challenge!

I’d like to enter this card into the following challenges:
