Farewell Crafty Girls!

Today I’m posting my last card as a DT member for the Crafty Girls.  I’ve had a lovely time as part of the team, but it’s time for a break; I’ve become more involved in my children’s school in the past few months, there have been job changes for hubby and it’s time to take stock and re-group!

We were very lucky to be sponsored by Dilly Beans – I love Megan’s images, and usually pick a pretty, girly image, but this time I decided to pick one of the flowery images – Grandpa’s Flowers.  I printed and cut the base image on the Silhouette, coloured it with a range of pink Pro-Markers, then cut and coloured an additional flower and leaf, which I popped up on 3D pads, over the edge of the kraft frame.

I was recently delighted to win a gift voucher for Cuddly Buddly – I finally got around to placing an order and received my goodies earlier in May.  Within my order, I had chosen some white chalk ink and a wood effect embossing folder, and I finally got to put it all to good use this afternoon!  My first attempt at weathered wood  🙂

The white cardstock base was looking at little too harsh, so I used a little Spun Sugar Distress Ink to soften it up a bit.  All that remained was to put it all together, with a little twine and a lovely heart button that I’ve had squirreled away since I took it off a pinafore my daughter had outgrown!

Before I go, I just want to wish Fiona, Erin and the team at Crafty Girls all the very best!

Blue Hydrangeas

Blue Hydrangeas are one of my all-time favourite flowers – just to be clear, I have lots of favourites and absolute faves vary depending on day, mood, season…..  But blue Hydrangeas are definitely up there!  Which is why I chose the Hydrangea stamp from Aurora Wings for the new challenge over at the Crafty Girls.

I kept the style of the card simple, in order to focus more on the gorgeous flowers.  I coloured the image with Pro-Markers, going back afterward the ink was dry to add in a little definition where needed in the centre of the flowers.  A framed sentiment, echoing the blue hue and a couple of gems finished off this very simple and quick make!

Anything Goes With The Crafty Girls!

Time for a new challenge over at The Crafty Girls!  We were sponsored by Sassy Design Studios and Di’s Digi Downloads this fortnight; I chose to work with “The New Sassy Cassy” from Sassy Designs – she looks fabulous!!

I based my layout around the current sketch over at Seize The Sketch – I used to play along regularly, but haven’t for a while as my DT cards are usually ready weeks in advance; not so this time though as it’s the Easter holidays for both my children, so we’re making the most of some free time and sunshine by spending our days catching up with friends in the park!

STS-#18

The image was coloured with Pro-Markers.  I worked hard on the hair again this week, and I reckon it looks like I might be getting a little better at it!  I have watched so many YouTube tutorials on colouring hair that I really should be an expert 😉 – but it’s one thing listening and watching, another thing entirely when it comes to reproducing the delicate shades of light, and not over blending!

All the papers are from the First Edition Summer Breeze paper stack – it’s been lurking at the back of my paper box for over a year now, and has only ever been used a couple of times so I’m pleased to have made a little more of a dent into it today!

The final touches were some peach ribbon, tiny dark peach pearls on the bottom paper and an oval shaped sentiment, created using the print and cut function on the Silhouette.

Easter Egg Delivery

It’s new challenge time over at Crafty Girls!  We are sponsored by A Day For Daisies and Glamoureyes, and there are some great prizes to be snapped up!

I chose Easter Egg Delivery by A Day For Daisies for my card – I loved the idea of a little sprite delivering the eggs, with the help of a kaleidoscope of butterflies!  The layout is based around the current sketch challenge over at Friday Sketch Challenge (flipped sideways):

I deliberately kept the design of the card quite flat as I will probably be posting this card off to my god-daughter in Sheffield, so I’d rather keep the postage down!  The papers are all from the Dovecraft Back To Basics III stack – my favourite for Spring themed cards at the moment!  After colouring the image with Pro-Markers, I softened the edges with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to imitate the sky as a background.  The spots on the Easter Egg were added with a Sakura Jelly Roll pen – unfortunately they didn’t turn out quite as I had hoped, there are too many, too close and the sizes are too uneven! Finally a little touch of Stickles on the wings (although it is impossible to see in the photos!).

Eureka!!

It’s time for another new challenge at Crafty Girls, and our sponsors are Eureka Stamps this fortnight.

I chose to use this adorable Baby Animals stamp for my card.  They animals reminded me of some stuffed toys my children had as babies.  I’m a little bit hooked on faux paper piecing at the moment, so I headed off to my Silhouette to start my card.  I was thinking of colouring the animals in pastel colours, maybe with a new baby theme, but at the last minute I used the solid colours from the Sweater Weather digital paper collection by Harper Finch.  I was a bit disappointed that the lovely texture in the papers didn’t show up as well as I’d hoped, but I think that may have been because I was using the papers in a relatively small area.

I popped a circular frame cut from chevron embossed Kraft card over the coloured image using 3D pads, then finished the card off with a little twine and a natural coloured button.  I’ve left the sentiment off for now as I’m not sure whether it will be a new baby card or perhaps a birthday card for a young boy….

First Crafty Girls Challenge of 2014!

The new challenge over at Crafty Girls starts today.  We were lucky to be sponsored by Bugaboo Stamps, and as the theme is “Anything Goes” for this challenge, I headed straight for this great Candy Jar image:

crafty girls 9 jan 14 fullI coloured the image with Pro-Markers, sticking to bold, juicy colours for the sweets.  To emphasise the glass, I drew a little pale blue ink onto my blender pen and added little light touches around the edge of the glass.   I then added Glossy Accents to the whole of the glass jars, the sweets popping out of the top and the bubbles of colour on the paper.   The papers were part of a lovely freebie set from Cute and Useful – they were perfectly coloured to compliment the bright, bold sweets.  The sentiment was cut on the Silhouette and a piece of bubblegum pink glittercard was popped in behind it.

I hope you’ll have a chance to pop over and have a look at the rest of the inspirational pieces created by my team-mates, and I look forward to seeing your entries in the challenge.
