Crafting From The Heart

It’s time for a new challenge over at Crafting From The Heart.  The theme for this fortnight is Anything Goes; we were lucky to be sponsored by Sassy Design Studios and The Stamping Chef.

Here’s my card for the challenge:

crafting from the heart 23 dec 13

The image, from Sassy Design Studios, was coloured with Pro-Markers.  For the bubbles, I drew some pale blue ink from a marker onto a blender pen and coloured in circles to make the colour follow the shape of the bubbles and also to keep the colour uneven.  I added some Star Dust Stickles to some of the smaller bubbles, while some of the larger bubbles got the Glossy Accents treatment, as you can see in the close up below.

I added the image to a scallop frame, which I coloured using Tumbled Glasss Distress Ink.  The backing paper, vellum and ribbon were all from my stash.  For the sentiment, I added some Star Dust Stickles to a turquoise button as it toned the colour down a little.

The layout was based on Sketch 47, the current challenge over at From The Heart Stamps:

I’m also delighted to let you know that I have been asked to join the Crafting From The Heart team as a DT member – thanks again to Fiona and Erin!  I’m looking forward to some more great challenges in the New Year.

Poppy and Soldier

Today’s Christmas card was a special request from a friend and features the Cute Just Got Cuter” image from All Dressed Up.

Using the Silhouette Studio software, I removed the sentiment from the original, then copied and flipped the picture to show 2 dogs in mirror image.  I printed the names at the same time as the image, but then re-cut “&” and hung it over the edge of the paper.  I coloured Poppy and Soldier with Pro-Markers, and then followed the current sketch over at From The Heart Stamps.

Sketch046

The papers are all from a Christmas Joy paper stack by First Edition, the snowflake is from my stash, coloured with Pro-Markers to blend with the colour scheme.

A(bi) for Ava

In amongst all the hustle and bustle of preparing for Christmas every year, my friends from my NCT class back in 2006 are all celebrating their eldest children’s birthdays – and this weekend is no different as it’s Ava’s turn!

Today’s card features a little ballerina that I am very fond of…Abi!  Abi is one of the sweet collection of stamps available from All Dressed Up (and she’s a freebie at the moment too!).  I’m also playing along with the current sketch challenge over at From The Heart Stamps, where this week’s layout looks like this:

FTHS 44

And here is my completed card:

abi for ava full

I have used a plain baby pink cardstock for the base of the frame, overlaying with a piece of Sienna glitter vellum by Docrafts.  Abi was coloured with Pro-Markers and a little sparkle, courtesy of a little Stickles.  The banner behind the framed image is cut from two layers of shimmery Centura Pearl cardstock (although it’s not easy to see in the photos), the bottom layer is a raspberry colour, and the top layer is an iced pink.  Final touches of a piece of ribbon and some little pink gems, both from my stash, and the card is ready to be written and posted off!

Wintry Snow Globe

Hi everyone!  I’m excited to share with you today my first DT card for the Crafty Girls Challenge 🙂  The theme is for this challenge is “Anything Goes”, so it’s the perfect challenge to showcase all your Christmas projects!  Our lovely sponsors for this challenge are MilkCoffee and Floppy Latte.

crafty girls 28 nov full

The snow globe image is by Floppy Latte – it’s the first time I have used one of their stamps, but most definitely won’t be the last!!  I really enjoyed keeping this card in cool, pastel, wintry shades – it may have helped that it was also the first morning we had to de-ice the car before we could drive to school!!  I used Pro-Markers to colour the image, choosing light fresh colours and then making them even paler by drawing ink from the chisel end of the coloured markers onto the bullet nib of the blender and diluting the colour down a little further.  For the fresh snow on the ground, I used a Tea Green Pro-Marker around the “edges” of the snow and again, blended it further.  Star Dust Stickles gave my snowy scene a crisp, sparkly finish.  I added the sentiment to the base of the globe as it felt too crowded anywhere else.  The sentiment is a peel-off sticker from the Forever Friends Christmas set – I usually avoid peel-offs as I’m not a big fan, but I liked the way I could easily adjust the letters to follow the slight curve of the snowglobe.

The  background papers are from an old Forever Friends Christmas paper stack and I added little Stickles dots to the centre of the snowflakes, so that it catches the light, even on the gloomiest of days!  I borrowed the layout from Sketch 42 at From The Heart Stamps; I liked the way the two circular cuts of background paper echoed the snowglobe’s shape and the colour I chose for the sky.  Finally, a little strip of narrow satin ribbon and a few gems as the finishing touches!

I’m sure you’re right in the middle of some amazing Christmas creations – why not head over the the Crafty Girls Challenge and show us!  Don’t forget to take a peek at the other amazing DT projects while you’re there!

Final GDT Post at C…Is For Challenge

Today I’m sharing the card I made for my final challenge as GDT for Anna at C…Is For Challenge.  The theme for this challenge is Ornaments – my thoughts are turning to decorating the Christmas tree already!

C is for hallenge GDT Stitchy Bear

I’ve loosely borrowed From The Heart Sketch’s Sketch 42, as the layout reminded me of three baubles (or ornaments…see where I’m going with this??!!).  The image is from the Stitchy Bear Stamp Outlet; I coloured it with Promarkers and added some red glitter for the baubles on the tree and a little Stickles to the ribbon on the box.  The stripy paper is from a much depleted Trimcraft Christmas set – it was my last sheet of the stripes, I’ve been hiding it in my stash for far too long!  I cut the glittercard frames using the Silhouette, and embossed some white cardstock with the Darice Snowflakes folder, using the Cuttlebug.

I’d like to thank Anna for the chance to be a GDT over at C…Is For Challenge – I’ve enjoyed being part of her team and wish her every success in the future!

When Frankie Met Sketch 39….

I was sad to read that Pollycraft would be closing down this Wednesday.  However, there are so many cute stamps that are a delight to colour and create with, that the bargain hunter in me just could not resist snapping up one last bundle of digis!  Frankie was one of the images included in the bundle…
2013-10-22 14.38.22

Sketch039Coincidentally, as I was buying the bundle from Pollycraft, my inbox pinged with the latest email sent by From the Heart Stamps.  I love the sketches on their site, and often use them for layout inspiration.  So I figured, maybe it was time to enter their challenge, with the current sketch and, of course, Frankie!  And, while I’m at it, there are several other Halloween challenges that Frankie could find her way to…C Is For Challenge, Stamp and Create and Crafty Boots to name a few!

I have used plain black cardstock, with two DPs from Shery K Designs, Frankie was printed on a white cardstock, adding stitches with the Silhouette and coloured with Pro-Markers.  While my normal skin tones are coming on nicely now, I think maybe I need a little more practice when it comes to green skin tones…..  Finally, the skull and crossbones, chosen to echo the clips in Frankie’s hair, was a freebie clipart piece, cut by the Silhouette and glazed with clear embossing powder for a nice sheen.

Finally, goodbye and good luck to Paula at Pollycraft!

Cute Just Got Cuter…

There’s no arguing with that!!  This cute little image is the new freebie from All Dressed Up, to coincide with their first challenge.  I chose to use this little pup to make a birthday card for my step-dad, as he loves dogs!2013-10-03 08.06.47

I based this card around Sketch 14 on the From The Heart Stamps blog.  The image was coloured with Pro-Markers; I’m still working hard at mastering hair and fur colouring, as you can see from this latest effort!  The spotty paper is from a Forever Friends Christmas pack and the stripy paper is from the First Edition Summer Breeze pad.  A length of red satin ribbon, to tie in with the dog’s ribbon in the image and a lovely brown button, tied through with some red and white baker’s twine finished it off.
