Inky Bee…

It’s spotlight time over at Kitty Bee!  For this month’s post, I’ve used Birthday Bee, one of three cute little bees included in the Bumble Bee Set #1.

The background was created using a honeycomb stencil and some Scattered Straw Distress Ink.  I was careful to keep the shading varied so create depth to the background.  The little bee was coloured with Pro-Markers and then mounted on a hexagon of white cardstock which was also liberally doused in Scattered Straw and Spiced Marmalade Distress Inks, then popped on some 3D pads.  Finally, the sentiment was printed directly onto vellum, then I smudged some more Distress Ink on the back of the vellum, to avoid smudging the sentiment too.  I attached it with a metal brad and a couple of tiny dots of Glossy Accents to stop it flapping too much – I left the end free to curl up though!

Kitty Bee May Spotlight

It’s that time again – the days are just flying by at the moment, life really seems to have stepped it up a gear…

Anyway, for today’s Kitty Bee spotlight card, I used the adorable Best Friend Buns stamp.  It’s my 13th Wedding anniversary in a few days, so I chose the image with an anniversary card in mind.  As my regular followers may remember, my better half prefers his cards CAS, which is good for me as that’s my comfort zone!  Even so, I was delighted with the finished card:

I printed the image and used my Silhouette to cut the image with a slight border.  I coloured the bunnies in a variety of Cool Grey ProMarkers, using a selection of reds for the heart and bow.  The sentiment is actually a freebie cut file from Amanda Robinson Studios, but I chose to print it directly on the card base instead of cutting it (love the script style!).  I popped the bunnies up on 3D pads, added some grey/white twine and a heart that I cut from red cardstock and smothered in Glossy Accents.  Couldn’t get much simpler 🙂

Scrappy Do!!

It’s time for a new challenge over at Kitty Bee’s Aloha Friday!  Our theme for this challenge is “Scraps” – we want to see at least three different scraps used in your project.  Our sponsor was Doodle Garden – the first time I’ve used one of their images, but definitely not the last; they’re so cute and very easy to work with!

On to my card then….  I chose to use Three Cheers for my project – I was looking for an image that would be ideal for paper piecing as I find this is the easiest way to use up the small odds and ends of papers that I can’t bear to throw away!  As soon as I saw this cute little girl, I could see her dress paper pieced, along with a matching bow….not to mention the flag!!

I coloured the image with Pro-Markers, then “dressed” her with the dress and bow that I had cut from a scrap of patterned paper from the Hip Hip Hooray Stack by American Crafts – in fact, all the patterned papers on the card are from the same stack, which is my absolute favourite because of the bright, juicy summer colours.  I also used scraps for the flowery stripes across the background, the flag and the sentiment.

I based the layout on the current sketch and twist challenge over at Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2. I chose to use the middle row (sentiment, designer paper, flower).  The frame and stripes have been popped up on 3D pads to create a little distance between the patterned background and the flowery stripes – might have caused a few migraines otherwise 😉 Unfortunately, I’ve just realised that our challenge goes live after the closing date, so I won’t be able to enter 😦  Never mind, I’m sure I’ll find a couple of other challenges to link up to!!

Easter Celebrations With Kitty Bee

Our Easter themed challenge is beginning today over at Kitty Bee’s Aloha Friday Challenge.  We were sponsored by Stitchy Bear Stamp Outlet for this challenge; I chose Easter Bouquet by Stitchy Stamps because the daffodils and hidden eggs are exactly what I hope to see on Easter morning!

I coloured the flowers with Pro-Markers, but faux paper pieced the eggs to draw in some of the other colours from the paper stack (Harper Finch’s It’s Easter Solids) that I used for the mats and frames.

The layout is based around the current sketch over at Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2, and I’ll be hopping over there later today to link up to the challenge!

Kitty Bee Spotlight

It’s that time again!!  This month’s spotlight card for Kitty Bee features an adorable little Hanging Around Bear.  I cut the image using the Silhouette and coloured him using Pro-Markers.

The background was made with the latest addition to my rapidly expanding  embossing folder collection!  I inked one side of the Darice Clouds folder with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink, then ran it through the Cuttlebug to create a sky backdrop for the little bear, so that he looked like he was a long way above the ground!  The image was popped on 3D foam pads to add a little depth.

I chose a Kraft background layer to tie in with the colour of the bear and embossed it with the Darice honeycomb folder to tie in with the bees and hive.

Finally, I attached a sentiment after inking the edges with a little Vintage Paper Distress Ink, and mounted the whole panel on a white card base.

This little guy is just one of many cute images over at Kitty Bee – hurry over there now to see the others!

Things With Wings….

As Spring starts to arrive, the new challenge over at Kitty Bee’s Aloha Friday is “Things With Wings”.  We were very lucky to be sponsored by Dilly Beans, and I had a great time playing with this little bee image!

There are actually three bees included in the set, the other two are side on views of the bee.  However, for my card, this little fellow was just perfect!  I printed him in a circle and cut it all on the Silhouette.  I coloured the image with Pro-Markers, then ran a little Scattered Straw Distress Ink around the edge of the circle.  For the honeycomb panel on the right hand side, I embossed an off-cut of white card with the Darice Honeycomb folder and then dragged the Scattered Straw Distress Ink across it until I had reached the depth of colour I wanted – I love the way there’s still a little white edge inside each of the hexagons!

dilly beans bees 14 mar 14 flat

For the banner, I used the print and cut option on the Silhouette again; the font is Minya Nouvelle….my latest favourite!  For the black and yellow mat on the banner, I cut the shape from a piece of Dovecraft Back To Basics Monochrome stack, then ran my Gold Pro-Marker over the pattern to colour in the white bits and make it more bee-like.  The final layer of paper is from the Studio Calico Snippets collection.

I based the layout on the current challenge over at Seize The Sketch:
