Let’s Celebrate Joyfully!!

I had a shop around earlier this week to find a cute little girl for my daughter’s 5th birthday card earlier this week.  It didn’t take long to stumble across Emma, the character in Tiddly Inks Celebrate Joyfully stamp.  I have a very soft spot for adorable images, and Tiddly Inks images are just that!!

erin birthday front

Unusually for a girly 5th birthday card, I haven’t chosen a pink or purple colour scheme – Erin’s favourite colour is yellow (as she announced as I was halfway through decorating her bedroom pink recently….), so, using Pro Markers, I have coloured Emma’s dress in yellow, as well as using a hair colour that is very similar to my daughter’s.

The lemon and peach papers are by American Crafts, and have a lovely texture.  I added a little Scattered Straw Distress Ink around the edge of the lemon to add some definition.  The base layer is from the Snippets collection by Studio Calico.  The banner was a file from the Silhouette store, popped up on 3D pads for extra depth.

I couldn’t resist adding the cute little patch of flowers to the inside of the card, on a mat of yellow and white polka paper from the Papermania Spots and Stripes Brights stack, which matches the die-cut flowers I made for the front of the card.

All in all, it’s a card I know Erin will love!  And if you find yourself in need of a spot of retail therapy, head over to the Tiddly Inks store…you won’t regret it 😉

Now there is also the not so little matter of a DT call over at Tiddly Inks.  I have just had a peek at all the fabulous applications so far – and I’m quaking in my boots!  But, as the saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained…!

Am I Late To The Party…?

I think I must have missed an important memo somewhere….seriously, I must have been hiding under a pile of paper somewhere, and totally missed Kenny K’s amazing images!  I have finally caught up, mainly because he’s sponsoring one of my upcoming DT challenges – but I have to confess I’m hooked!!  The images are great, just so crisp and a really pleasure to colour : ) and then I spotted an ice hockey player….!

My cousin’s eldest son is a big (and I mean huge!) ice hockey fan.  He plays, watches, eats, sleeps, breathes ice hockey…  I, on the other hand, wouldn’t know one end of the stick from the other!  So finding an image that I would enjoy colouring to pop on a birthday card that he would love to receive seemed like a no-brainer!

I’ve coloured the image with Pro-Markers, and used papers from the Snippets Collection by Studio Calico.  I can’t wait to post it to him over in France!! 🙂

Phew! Made It!!

I’m breathing a huge sigh of relief after finishing this card!  Although I’ll be nearly home by the time this post goes live, it is actually the last card I need to complete before packing my case and heading beachwards for 10 days!!

Anyway, on with the card!  This card is for the new challenge at Sentimental Sundays – we’re sponsored by Paper Pretties and the theme is “Make It Fab-ric!” (nice and easy, just add a little fabric onto your card!).

I chose to use Tommy on my card – his kite seemed to be a pretty good place to add some fabric into my card!  As usual, the image was coloured with Pro-Markers and cut on the Silhouette.  The sky background is from the In The Woods collection by Harper Finch, I’ve just lightened the colour of the sky slightly before printing it.  Two strips of grass were cut on the Silhouette, from the Snippets stack by Studio Calico; Tommy was popped between the two to give an element of depth to the card (I was massively inspired by our Guest Designer Maja‘s card from a couple of weeks ago – thank you!!).  The fabric I’ve used for the kite is a scrap of denim-like material that I’ve had in my stash since…..forever!!  Nice to finally use a bit of it!  I drew the bars from the kite on using a Sakura Jelly Roll.  The final touch was the sentiment banner and button – I picked a yellow button to add a little sunshine to my scene!

Hope you get a chance to pop over to Sentimental Sundays and show us how you’ve added fabric (and a sentiment!) to your makes this week.  I’m off to carry on packing 🙂

Things With Wings….

As Spring starts to arrive, the new challenge over at Kitty Bee’s Aloha Friday is “Things With Wings”.  We were very lucky to be sponsored by Dilly Beans, and I had a great time playing with this little bee image!

There are actually three bees included in the set, the other two are side on views of the bee.  However, for my card, this little fellow was just perfect!  I printed him in a circle and cut it all on the Silhouette.  I coloured the image with Pro-Markers, then ran a little Scattered Straw Distress Ink around the edge of the circle.  For the honeycomb panel on the right hand side, I embossed an off-cut of white card with the Darice Honeycomb folder and then dragged the Scattered Straw Distress Ink across it until I had reached the depth of colour I wanted – I love the way there’s still a little white edge inside each of the hexagons!

For the banner, I used the print and cut option on the Silhouette again; the font is Minya Nouvelle….my latest favourite!  For the black and yellow mat on the banner, I cut the shape from a piece of Dovecraft Back To Basics Monochrome stack, then ran my Gold Pro-Marker over the pattern to colour in the white bits and make it more bee-like.  The final layer of paper is from the Studio Calico Snippets collection.

I based the layout on the current challenge over at Seize The Sketch:

GDT and Blog Hop at All Dressed Up

I was over the moon to be asked to join All Dressed Up as a GDT for January, and even more excited to hear that they would be having a blog hop to celebrate a new release….not only would I get to be part of a blog hop for the first time, but I get to play with the new digis to boot!!

There are four new releases this month, all of which can be found over on the All Dressed Up store.  The theme for the challenge is “Anything Goes”. A nice and easy theme to start the new year with.  The challenge will run until 15th February and the winner will receive 3 images of their choice from the store.  Please make sure you stop by the blog to check out the rest of the talented Dressy Girls creations.

Now as I said earlier All Dressed Up are also having a blog hop for this challenge, two lucky winners will receive 2 images of their choice from the All Dressed Up store.  In order to be in with a chance of winning you have to visit every blog on the hop list and leave a comment by the date shown below.  Two winners will be picked at Random by two of the Dressy Girls on Wednesday 22nd January . A whole week should give you plenty of time to hop along! If you have been following the hop list you have arrived here from Sharon’s blog.  Here is the hopping list so you don’t get lost along the way:
Good luck on the hop and make sure you check out the blog for the winners & all the challenge details.

Now, on to my project!!  I chose to use Little Bookworm for my project as I felt that I could make more than a card with her (I had a little free time over Christmas and the New Year!).  So, I decided to make a bookmark giftcard – I have no idea if these actually exist, I have simply picked a name for it that describes what I made 🙂

all dressed up gdt bookmark full

To begin, I made the bookmark by printing the image on a long strip of card, which I folded in half.  I coloured the image using Pro-Markers, then cut a frame from a lovely yellow paper from Studio Calico, which I popped over the top of the image.  Next, I added two strips of magnetic tape to the ends and then lined the inside with a stripy paper from the same studio Calico stack, to hide the magnetic strips and make it look prettier inside (even though you don’t often have to look at it!)

The next step was to make the card – the background is text from Alice In Wonderland, found on Emily’s Image Garden, which I printed as a faded copy and edged with Scattered Straw distress ink.  The little flowers in the corner were made using a combination of petal punches, with heart buttons or little beads as the centres.  The petals were cut from the yellow Studio Calico paper used for the frame and the Alice text, printed smaller and in its original colours.

To mount the bookmark onto the card, I simply cut a strip out of the front of the card, and slipped the bookmark through, closing the magnets to hold it in place, which makes the bookmark the main image for the card.

All in all, a lovely little giftcard for any Little Bookworm!

Rusty the Robot

Today’s card was made for another one of the children from my NCT group, Jacob, and features Rusty by Pollycraft.

I coloured the image with the Cool Grey Pro-Markers, mainly the lightest three, with the 2 darkest tones for accenting.

Sketch Saturday 288

Then, using the current sketch from the Sketch Saturday challenge rotated anti-clockwise, I popped Rusty on a background of grey chevrons from Mel Stampz and celebration slogans from the Snippets Collection by Studio Calico.

Finally a banner, also from the Snippets Collection, with a 7 to show Jacob’s age and a little button from an American Crafts set I found in the clearance section at Homesense (I love a bargain!!).
