Happy Feet!

It’s been such a pleasure to start to get back to a routine this week – I’ve made time to just have a bit of crafting fun, and it makes a nice change from my DT commitments!  I’ve always enjoyed playing along with sketch challenges, and today was no exception!

Today’s card is based around the current sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches.

This happy little chappy is by 2CuteInk. Such a little cutie!!  I know it may be a little unusual to colour a penguin in shades of blue, but the card is for my son’s friend and he was adamant that the penguin should be blue, as it is the birthday girl’s favourite colour!!  I used ProMarkers as usual, using a little Cool Grey 4 at the edge of the bright colours on the hat and bunting to give it some depth.

The mat is simply two strips of washi tape, overlapped to join the pattern, on top of an offcut of blue card.

Back To CAS!

Lately, I’ve found that there is some much going on that I can’t sit, relax and let the card take shape organically….  So I’m playing along with some of my favourite sketch challenges til things calm down a bit.  Today’s card is based around the current sketch challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches:

FMS Final 143-001

I like the simplicity of this sketch!  It was a pleasure to head back to my very CAS style – I prefer not to use images on very clean cards, but as most of my design team work involves sponsor images, I haven’t had a chance in recent weeks to strip it back!  In  fact, this card almost felt too CAS….is that even possible? 😉

So, back to the card….  The circle, banner and back mat are all cut from AC cardstock.  The sentiment was printed on the card before cutting the shapes on the Silhouette (although it struggled to read the registration marks on the teal card, so I cut the banner by hand!).  The grey mat at the back was dry embossed with a grungy stripe folder to add a little texture.  The last element is a strip of striped washi tape, which runs across the centre of the card, anchoring all the element s together.  The right hand side of the banner and left hand side of the ring have been popped up on 3D pads to give a little more depth to the card.

Kitty Bee’s New Baby Challenge

Well, I’m back!!  The only reminder of the warm weather is my “barely there” tan – as a freckly red-head, I tend to look like I haven’t been away!!

I’m sharing my DT make for the new challenge over at Kitty Bee’s Aloha Friday Challenge, where the theme is New Baby or Congratulations.  We were lucky to be sponsored by A Day For Daisies, and I chose to use Blankie for my tag – this gorgeous image reminded so much of bathtime with my little ones 🙂

I coloured the image with Pro-Markers, then mounted the image on several layers of aqua and white card.  I have lightly distressed the edges of some of the layers, using the Tim Holz Distress Tool – I tend to keep things so crisp, that I struggled to rough up the edges on the layers!  The stripy layer is made using some washi tape, which I have had hiding at the back of my drawer for a while.  The sentiment was printed directly onto a piece of vellum and attached using a couple of brads.

I look forward to seeing all your gorgeous creations – don’t forget that as it can be either New Baby or Congratulations, you’re bound to make something you can share with us!

Show Us Something New At Kitty Bee

Today I am pleased to share my first DT card for Kitty Bee Designs, which features Little Miss Sassy!  The theme for this challenge is “Something New” and we were really lucky to be sponsored by A Random Fan.

I tried out a couple of new techniques on this card.  I am still struggling to colour hair and give it some texture.  So, while I was having a hunt around looking for a tutorial to give me some tips, I came across this card by Kevin McCrafty – I loved the colour Kevin used to colour Little Miss Sassy’s hair, not to mention the lovely texture he’s managed to portray!  So I figured that I would see if I could get anywhere close to emulating Kevin’s technique….and I don’t think I did too bad a job!!

Despite having just finshed a truckload of Christmas cards, I am still hooked on the red and white colour combo – I think it looks so crisp and fresh.  So, I coloured Little Miss Sassy’s outfit in red (using Pro-Markers), plced her on a red background and then added some banners beneath the image….which is where my second new thing comes in!

I love washi tape….but up til now I haven’t figured out how or what to do with it on cards.  However, I appear to have got carried away in the craft store sales, as I now a have lovely, (not so) little collection of tapes in my stash!!  So I figured that I should try adding them to the card as another something new!  The middle banner was cut from white cardstock and then two strips of washi tape added to cover it entirely – can’t believe I haven’t done something this simple before!!  The other two banners were cut on the Silhouette, using a design by Loni Stevens.  The little red spots in the bottom corner are just coated with Glossy Accents to give them a lovely shine.
